aMap: Interactive Argumentation Maps

The aMap project is an interdisciplinary research project in the Stanford Interactivity Lab that is looking into how to build upon the innate human ability to work with complex information dynamically in a spatial manner.

A significant amount of work has been published in recent years in the area of visualization of quantified scientific data, catalyzed by the 1987 paper published by McCormick, B.H. et al (Visualization in Scientific Computing, Computer Graphics 21, 6 (November 1987) ACM SIGGRAPH: New York).

While our gains in this important area have been significant, they have not been as focused on the area of subjective data visualization, which represents another significant category of the growing body of our world's knowledge. The aMap project is exploring exactly this area.


 

Project Vision

The vision of the aMap project is to research navigation techniques based on embedded semantic meaning. We will accomplish this by building a teaching, analysis and display tool on ultra-high resolution wall displays based on Bob Horn's documented approach using Argumentation Mapping.
